The collection and preservation distinguished the origin of museums in Granada and the world. These activities were constant among the affluent sectors of various societies. The monarchy, the aristocracy, and the clergy emerged as pioneers in the necessary and timely gathering of all valuable objects.
The first private collections stemmed from the display of power by the wealthiest segments of society (clergy, monarchy, and nobility) until they were made accessible to other members of society for educational and scientific purposes. This established a typology of museums based on their ownership.

The first public museums in Spain appeared in the 19th century. Many of these museums originated from royal collections and various confiscation processes. Through the latter, part of the ecclesiastical assets became publicly owned.
The first public museum that existed in Spain was the “National museum of Natural Sciences”. It opened its doors in the year 1772. After this opening came the “Army museum” in 1803, the “Museo del Prado” in 1818, the “National Archaeological Museum in 1867 and the “Museum Anthropology” in 1875.
In the end, museums emerged as entities capable of integrating natural, ethnographic, scientific, and cultural heritage into societies, consolidating knowledge in a cross-cutting and integrative manner.

This museum offers several proposals of tour.

This museum holds utensils and objects of the nazari kingdom of Granada.
